Overview
I researched the impact of mixed reality (MR) on training simulations and built a new Unity application for Meta Quest 3 that supports real-time MR/VR switching and local multiplayer via shared spatial anchors.

Approach
- Conducted a thesis-level literature review and wrote an evaluation methodology
- Prototyped multiple interaction and networking concepts and iterated through colleague testing
- Implemented local multiplayer using Meta localisation with shared spatial anchors
- Ran a final evaluation with defence trainees (Royal Netherlands Army/Koninklijke Landmacht) based on the developed methodology

Outcome
- Delivered a working MR training prototype with seamless MR/VR mode switching and stable local multiplayer
- Collected structured feedback and telemetry to support future development and training design
- Findings indicated improved attention and retention with MR compared to VR-only

Contributions
- Built the MR application in Unity (Quest 3), including passthrough and scene understanding workflows
- Created a lightweight library for local multiplayer using shared spatial anchors (little/no public documentation at the time)
- Designed and conducted the testing plan, gathered and analysed user data to improve iterations
- Managed Meta for Developers (App Dashboard) setup and requested user-data permission
- Delivered demos and presentations to large internal audiences

Tech
Unity (C#), Meta Quest 3, Meta SDKs (localisation & shared spatial anchors), MR passthrough, Unity XR tooling, and GitHub version control.

NDA
Due to NDAs, the final application and details are not public. The embedded figures are early prototype examples only (not final client content).

What I learned
- End-to-end literature review and methodology design
- Scoping & estimation in a corporate environment (meetings, stakeholders, reviews)
- MR development on Quest 3 & Real-time MR/VR mode switching
- Local multiplayer with shared spatial anchors
- Data collection from user tests and translating findings into product changes
- Navigating platform permissions and app verification
- Presenting to large groups
